Job description
Metrocorp, Inc., publisher of Philadelphia and Boston magazines, has an immediate opening for a Managing Editor in the Creative Services department. This person will play an integral role in the management of paid sponsor content sections in both city magazines and will work with our content writers, art directors, marketing and client services teams.
The person in this role needs to be a skilled project manager and communicator, with impeccable organizational skills and strong editorial instincts. In addition, the must be a sharp copy editor, extremely detail-oriented, and have experience working with style guides and brand standards.
Qualifications:
- BA Required
- 1-3 years magazine or newspaper experience (managing editor or sponsor content experience a plus).
- Experience using InDesign, InCopy and a project management system such as Wrike, a plus
Required Skills:
- Extremely organized with excellent project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to multitask and prioritize.
- Excellent writing and copyediting skills and strong attention to detail.
- Problem-solver who is able to switch gears as needed and keep a team on task.
- Experience managing freelancers or interns.
- Previous work in client-facing roles a plus.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Developing and managing timelines and deadlines for all print sponsor content in Philadelphia and Boston magazines, including but not limited to advertorials, special advertising sections, custom inserts, profile sections and custom client projects.
- Communicating content line-up, timelines and deadlines with marketing, sales and client services department.
- Prioritizing competing project deadlines for the creative services department.
- Assist department and creative director with editorial vision for large custom-content projects.
- Writing in-book sponsor content as needed and working with designers to execute projects.
- Managing freelancers and reviewing freelance copy.
- Working with marketing and sales teams to develop content ideas for client proposals.
- Leading content discussions on client kickoff calls.
- Mapping special sections and working with production department on placement for each issue.
- Copyediting all sponsor content, including being final eyes on files before they are released to production.
- Booking all filler ads and event promos and recaps for both publications.
