Job Summary
Responsible for various projects and initiatives related to the development of new items. Observes all current and developing manufacturing process capabilities to ensure new items align with operational paths. Works with Design, Manufacturing, Technology and Safety, to identify and help define requirements related to the specifications, quality, testing, characterization, and implementation of new materials, components, and applications. Communicates effectively cross functionally with the development of assigned products in order to meet “On Time” delivery of projects and critical developmental stages for product release.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Participates with providing aesthetic and technical proficiency in all areas of new items through product design and development.
- Responsible for projects/resources at a planning/working level within the Product Development team to develop and implement best practices.
- Utilizes analytical tools, project tracking, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), reverse engineering, prototype equipment, root cause analysis, ROI, process mapping, to assist in implementing necessary changes in product line items, with a developed understanding of a product’s proportion, space relationship, positive and negative space and overall design intent.
- Supports existing and evolving 3-D Printing and Milling technologies and equipment. Utilizes CAD 3-D modeling technology to reverse engineer with specific attention to design aesthetics, manufacturability, quality and consumer safety and reliability.
- Stays current with changes in regulatory requirements in our industry, communicates changes with internal stakeholders, and ensures inclusion in our product design.
- Participates and facilitates in cross functional meetings related to engineering product requirements.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with other department personnel such as Designers, Production Managers, Technology, Tool and Die, Supply Chain and other related fields to deliver quality products.
- Collaborates with Technology Department and Manufacturing Engineers to research and help deploy new technology and production methods as they relate to implementation of new materials, components, equipment, and applications.
- Responsible for Research and Development administrative support work.
- Assists with other Product Development initiatives, projects and duties as assigned.
WHAT IS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical or Industrial Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Jewelry Arts or related field; or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with experience in Excel data sorting, analysis, formulas, and spreadsheet design.
PREFERRED QUALIFACTIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in three-dimensional conceptual modeling skills, and interpretation of physical and electronic renderings of products and tools, dies, and fixtures.
- Experience in developing new products in a jewelry manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on jewelry manufacturing experience.
- Project Management experience.
- Knowledge of various Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Rapid prototyping technologies.
- Lean Six Sigma training, Green Belt or Black Belt.
