Huntingdon Library is a vibrant, busy library. We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and versatile person to create a welcoming environment for a diverse range of customers. You will be excellent at multi-tasking, proactive, quick and efficient and enjoy working under pressure. The ability to communicate clearly and confidently is essential.
This post is based in Huntingdon Library with timetabled cover in Yaxley, Sawtry and Buckden libraries. Please see role timetable for details. It is essential that you are able to travel freely between all of the locations.
Some of the cover in Sawtry, Buckden and Yaxley libraries will involve lone working, therefore the ability to work under pressure on your own initiative is essential.
This is a 16 hour per week post, salary is paid pro-rata.

What will you be doing?- You will be passionate about what public libraries can offer, and able to promote our services.
- Although there is plenty of routine work, there are many opportunities to be creative.
- Training will be given on specific library systems, but an ability to work with IT is assumed.
Although library experience is an advantage, we would also like to hear from candidates who have demonstrated exceptional customer service skills in other contexts.
Please note that library work can be physically demanding.
About youYou will:
- Be confident working on your own using your initiative.
- Have excellent communication and digital skills.
- Be able to work with volunteers
- Be able to quickly master the varied aspects of library routine, including front line customer care, using the library management system, the self-service machines. handling cash, stock requests and stock circulation procedures.
- Be able to work collaboratively with partners in the building.
