The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) is a charity that represents doctors who specialise in skin disease, for the wider benefit of patients, carers and the public.
Its Transformation Quality Improvement Unit (TQIU) provides expert advice and support to our Dermatology members, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and Hospital Trust management and national stakeholders on all areas of NHS service provision. This requires statistical gathering of data from numerous resources covering a number of areas including workforce planning, service reviews, registry audits, hospital episode statistics and our membership database.
We are seeking a Data Analyst to join our TQIU team to support our work programmes. Working with our Director of TQIU and across other BAD business units, you will be integral to the data interrogation and reporting that supports various activities.
Job Summary:
This role will support the BAD's efforts to advance care for skin disease patients, with the development of our new service and clinical registries, by improving the sourcing and collation of our membership’s workforce data. The post holder will: evaluate data quality and ensure validity; based on data completeness, recommend data elements needed for improved data collection; and develop reports for BAD business units for external reporting to various stakeholders including members, national bodies, and pharmaceutical companies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Transformation and Quality Improvement to recommend and determine infrastructure and resources needed for a data analytics and reporting center for the BAD.
- Assist the TQIU in the oversight of incoming data requests to vet through the requests, determine analytic feasibility, and develop project timelines and review/approvals processes.
- Conduct data preparation for analysis. Review data for plausibility and patterns for possible outliers and inconsistencies within the data. Work with TQIU team to identify and summarize data trends, gaps, and patterns from both platform data and other relevant reports and bring gaps in data to the attention of the team.
- Work with BAD business unit Directors to identify and collate relevant data held by individual teams, review all aspects of data quality (e.g., completeness, standardization, accuracy).
- In collaboration with the platform vendor and supervisor, develop agreed reports for various stakeholders including members, working party groups, and internal teams. Create educational tools and resources to guide stakeholders on understanding reports. Synthesize stakeholder feedback for improvements, issues, and deficiencies to escalate additional analysis needed. Work with BAD Directors to develop and recommend reports based on trends, performance gaps, and improvement needs.
- Create and distribute reports that can be shared with service providers and other stakeholders to provide comparison data. Establish template and new comparison reports for groups with similarities including practice size, geographical location, patient population, etc. Be responsible for quality assurance in validation of analysis and testing for correct report implementation.
- Provide general analytics expertise and content for the development of reports, presentations and other materials to a range of BAD audiences. Work with BAD business units to finalize and operationalize data quality, analysis, and reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills, proven ability to handle multiple projects and competing deadlines, and ability to prioritize tasks with little input from supervisor.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy is needed along with analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Understanding of clinical data registries, data collection, and quality metrics.
- Understanding of national physician reporting requirements, specialty-specific measures, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Experience in data analysis and reviewing for data quality.
- Experience in report development and refinement.
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling and clinical risk adjustment.
- Ability to work cross-collaboratively with various teams and stakeholders, as well as work independently.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are necessary, in order to clearly and concisely communicate with various stakeholders. Ability to produce communication pieces to summarize findings effectively as well as present complex statistical information to varying audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint), experience with relevant statistical software (e.g., SAS, R), and relational databases (e.g., SQL).
Qualifications and Experience:
Degree-level education in statistics, biostatistics, data science and analytics or related field – or equivalent qualification. (Essential)
Minimum two to three years’ experience in data analytics, statistical modeling, and/or research. (Essential)
Experience in using health-related datasets such as clinical registry data, health administrative databases, and electronic health records. (Highly Desirable)
Experience in statistical project management from inception to completion. (Highly Desirable)
