Empowered by the First Nations Leadership Council and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, the BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is responsible to 204 First Nations in BC. Our mandate is to reduce the overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system and to support Nations as they move to sovereignty over justice.

Position Summary:
The Economic Data Analyst is responsible for reporting, data collection, research, and accountability initiatives. This role will form a working group and collaborate with the senior management team and steering committee leads to develop and evaluate methodologies, gather key data points, and prepare reports and presentations that meet the BCFNJC’s operational, organizational and accountability objectives. It will be the Data Analyst’s responsibility to lead the gathering and accountability initiatives within the limits of budget, time, regulations, objectives, and specifications.
As the Economic Data Analyst, you will have an expert level understanding of economic analysis and reporting, data modelling, analysis, capture and surveying. You will have extensive experience and proven ability to translate reporting requirements into operational processes to ensure captured data is accurate, that the process is scalable and repeatable, and that the information presented is defensible. The ideal candidate will have led and participated as an active member of a team of data analysts with knowledge and experience in policy, project management, data security and public sector accountability.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct statistical routines, monitor trends, compile data and prepare charts, graphs, summaries and reports in support of organizational information needs and research activities.
- Determine how the local economic factors will affect BCFNJC whether it be positively and/or negatively.
- Assemble, develop, distribute and analyze demographic and economic information for internal and external use including available opportunities that will benefit the economic growth of BC First Nations Justice Council.
- Keep the senior management team informed of significant problems that may jeopardize the achievement of the Justice Strategy.
- Maximize economic value through the development of additional funding streams and opportunities.
- Design economic strategies for the organization.
- Manage and supervise organization-wide committees that relate to any economic standings of the organization.
- Successfully communicate all concepts, processes, and instructions to the broader BCFNJC organization and senior management.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure economic stability and to determine future economic strategies for the organization.
- Accurately represent management directives and employee needs by designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating policies and procedures.
- Improve organizational capability by developing organizational assessment mechanism, interpreting results, developing recommendations and action plans.
- Coordinate, lead, participate and instruct staff and contractors specific to data gathering and surveys.
- Collaborate internally and externally to determine functional and non-functional requirements for data collection, data storage and reporting.
- Conduct research and provide advice regarding the collection, availability security and suitability of data.
- Prepare and present analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities as needed.
- Use tools and methodologies to capture data, create data models and reports.
- Implement and adhere to appropriate change management policies, data security and information management policies.
- Various other duties as required.
- Degree, diploma, certification or equivalent in science, computer science or mathematics.
- Education and or experience with a focus on Economics would be an asset.
- 5+ years of proven experience as a data analyst with project management experience working for non-profit, government funded organizations.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the successful development of economic organizational growth.
- Demonstrated experience taking data reporting requirements and translating those into operational process.
- Demonstrated knowledge of aggregated vs. disaggregated data and data sovereignty in relation to First Nations and Indigenous communities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of privacy legislation.
- Demonstrated experience leading surveying contractors, or internal staff in the collection of data.
- Extensive knowledge of Analysis services, BI, Reporting.
- Understanding of data security, information management principles.
- A technical mindset with great attention to detail and accuracy.
- Outstanding communication, collaboration, mentorship, leadership skills and presentation abilities.
- Occasional travel will be required.
- A clear criminal record check (CPIC) will be a condition of employment.
- Operational understanding of a Law Firm, community support organization, and/or not-for-profit society.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Government funding and reporting requirements/regulations.
- Understanding of data handling and custody, document distribution, storage, records, and information management.
- Understanding of various CRM systems and/or cloud-based ERP systems
- Experience with cloud-based survey platforms and data capture form building tools.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Hours: Full Time (35 hours / week); Mondays to Fridays.
