Purpose of the Role
We currently have an exciting role working within our Cyber Security and Compliance Team. This role would be ideally suited to a recent IT or Cyber Security graduate and provides an excellent opportunity to have exposure to a number of technologies in a varied and challenging higher education environment. Training will be provided on a practical day to day basis as well as more formal training through our training partners.
- The Cybersecurity Analyst will be a member of the Cyber Security and Compliance team providing end user security support, guidance, documentation and training.
- The role-holder will contribute to the maintenance and monitoring of technical security services within IS including malware protection, vulnerability monitoring and scanning, remote access and internal /external firewalls.
- You will contribute to the achievement of annual security certification for HWU. You will work across the divisions within IS and with schools and professional services at all campuses to support, manage and maintain HWU
- 's cyber security and compliance services with respect to information systems and IT services.
- The role-holder will provide security guidance, monitoring and technical support across the IS divisions as well as communicate and promote new security technologies and initiatives and raise awareness of the relevant issues and threats around security best practice.
- Represent the Cyber Security and Compliance team as well as IS across the University.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the achievement of cyber security best practice and compliance across the University, reporting to the Cyber Security and Compliance Manager and other IS groups as required
- Contribute to the delivery of objectives for the Cyber Security and Compliance team and monitor progress through use of reporting and monitoring systems
- Contribute to the documentation and maintenance of the technical systems, policies, procedures and guidance provided by the Cyber Security and Compliance team to ensure that the services are of high quality, fit for purpose and address emerging threats within the security landscape and within HWU.
- Maintain strong internal and external links with other areas (e.g. IS divisions, Information Governance, schools, professional services, HEFESTIS Shared Service, JISC, UCISA etc.) to retain good operational knowledge about University and Sector threats and objectives
- Contribute to security and compliance development projects within Information Services
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
ESSENTIAL
- Educated to first degree level or equivalent practical experience in the workplace
- Knowledge and understanding of current technologies and issues relating to cyber security and compliance
- Knowledge and awareness of current trends and challenges in managing cyber security threats in a HE environment and compliance requirements
- Understanding and awareness of the wider cyber security landscape and security best practice
- Ability to write procedures and documentation in a clear, concise format that is understandable by both technical staff and end users
- Demonstrable experience of managing own workload and changing priorities
- Excellent level of IT literacy and comfortable working with professionals in other specialisms
- Good track record of developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external customers, peers, stakeholders and others
- Proven ability to solve technical or logistical problems
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
About our Directorate:
The Global Information Services (GIS) directorate provides a range of services to support, promote and supply information, information skills and infrastructure to support a modern research-intensive university in a global setting. This straddles academic library provision alongside a range of technical services and systems such as IT and AV services, systems and support for learning & teaching, research & enterprise, operational effectiveness. Responsibility for the development and management of cyber security also sits within the GIS directorate.
It is an integrated global service, providing services to students, staff, applicants, alumni, external users across all five campuses.
