Job description The Centre for Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine (CGTRM) is the nucleus of a vibrant scientific and clinical community engaged in research into stem cells and their potential therapeutic benefits. It occupies the entire 28th floor of Guy's Hospital tower and is equipped with a large open plan laboratory including chemical, tissue culture, histology, confocal microscopy and state of the art imaging equipment. Located in the CGTRM, the Sancho Lab focuses in studying molecular cues behind cell fate decisions in pancreas. Our main goal in the lab is to decipher the fundamental regulatory networks involved in pancreatic cell fate decisions using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and to apply this knowledge to new strategies in regenerative medicine for diabetes. The post-doctoral researcher will join an enthusiastic, collaborative, hardworking and dynamic team and will work on an MRC funded project aimed to characterise novel regulatory mechanisms identified for the key pro-endocrine transcription factors driving beta-cell differentiation. Experience in iPSC cell culture, confocal imaging, western blot and cell biology is important as is the ability to work independently and accurately to high standards. Skills, knowledge, and experience Essential criteria Qualifications / training 1. PhD submitted / awarded in iPSC or Stem Cells related field. Skills / Experience 1. Experience with iPSC 2. Experience in Pancreas differentiation protocols using iPSCs. 3. Experience in presenting iPSC work in international conferences 4. Experience in publishing per review scientific articles Knowledge 1. Strong Background in Cell Biology 2. Strong background in Stem Cells Competencies 1. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
