In a nutshell
The Senior Technical Controller will help embed a Technology General Controls capability across a complex technology landscape, spanning the Sainsbury’s business.
As a new capability for Sainsburys, the Technology Controls team will need to introduce this skillset into our organisation. This team will ultimately be accountable for measuring, evidencing, and reporting on control compliance across critical technology products and applications across our business.
This new capability / skillset is required in anticipation of new and complex legislative changes planned to be introduced by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in FY23/24 that Sainsburys will be required to comply with. This will mean establishing the right processes, tools and teams in Sainsburys.

What you need to do
- Work alongside the Head of Technical Controls Management and Heads of Technical Controls to deliver additional legislative change into our business on an on-going basis, ensuring it is robust, comprehensive and repeatable.
- Build relationships with business stakeholders and teams within Sainsbury’s Tech to help drive forward the closing down of external audit findings
- You will be comfortable facilitating workshops to analyse, define and prioritise issues identified
- Engage the wider engineering teams to help close out prior year external audit findings and work alongside our External Audit partners to ensure smooth running of the current year’s IT external audit
- Work with the broader engineering, product and architecture communities to promote the importance of Technology General Controls to ensure that all new products are built with these controls in mind and upskilling the wider technology and business colleague population on effective controls
What you need to know and show
- Ideally have knowledge of compliance and regulatory controls in large organisation
- Experience of working in a complex, large-scale technology organisation using a mix of on-premise, SaaS and cloud-based technology solutions, able to apply this experience to the context of our business
- Good stakeholder management, working with a variety of teams to deliver the necessary change
