Appointees will be responsible for care of children admitted to general paediatric ward (Rainbow ward in QEQM) and for children referred to Child Health by the paediatric emergency Department at QEQM and primary care within the catchment area of districts of Thanet, Shepway and Canterbury. Rainbow ward is general paediatric ward with 24 beds, including 1 HDU bed.
Consultant of the week attends the regular teaching event on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 12:45 and 14:00 which contains a mix of formal teaching facilitated by senior members of team and junior doctors, Allied Health professionals and senior nursing team members.
This role is supported by one on call Registrar/Speciality Doctor and another one covering CAU and ED. FY1 doctor and one on call and one day shift junior doctor forms junior team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic team in the expansion of consultants in the Child Health Care Group at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. You will join an existing team of 11 General Paediatric Consultants with different special interests, backed up by Specialty Doctors and Specialist Registrars.
All 3 vacant posts are 10 PA’s and will undertake 3 clinics per week, and acute and general paediatric work at QEQM, inclusive of elective and outpatient services in Kent and Canterbury Hospital.
Applicants with an interest in paediatric epilepsy and neurology and adolescent rheumatology and chronic pain MDT services are invited to apply. The rheumatology post will be based at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital with acute on call duties undertaken at QEQM.
Our acute rota currently a 1:11, consists of 3 acute weeks but once fully recruited, we are looking at a 1:14 rota.

We have a newly built ED department with a dedicated paediatric unit. Significant investment in the ED department at QEQM provides up-to-date standards of acute care for children and young people.
Neonatal services in a QEQM include a postnatal unit with transitional care provided to neonates by the paediatric team and level of special care baby unit. Approximately 3600 deliveries are supported by QEQM labour suite and midwifery services and work closely with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford with team of Neonatologists.
An innovative model of paediatric clinics delivered within the GP services has been piloted in East Kent and successfully implemented and each consultant paediatrician will be expected to run one of the general paediatric clinic in GP surgery is within the region.
