Lead Concept Artist
Deep Silver Dambuster Studios - creators of the TimeSplitters series alongside Second Sight, Haze, Homefront: The Revolution, and the number one smash hit Dead Island 2 - has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Concept Artist to join our highly talented Art department.
- Effectively manage a team of Concept Artists.
- Follow and maintain the art vision and style set out by the Art Director.
- Inspire the concept art team and driving the concept art and technology forward.
- With the Art Director, perform regular appraisals, reviews and objective setting for the concept team.
- Assist with recruitment and selection of staff for own team.
- Liaise with external service providers if required.
- Prepare and monitor task schedules for the concept team.
- Assist in creating briefs and providing feedback for outsourced art work.
The role is being offered on a hybrid working basis, there will be some requirement for successful candidates to attend the studio location (Nottingham city centre) on an adhoc basis to be mutually agreed.
Who we’re looking for
The successful candidate will be leading our Concept Art team to create target quality concept art for characters, environments and props working in collaboration with the Art Director and other art department leads.
You will generate production focused illustrations for the art team that allow them to produce high quality, photorealistic in-game characters, environments and prop assets. In addition, you will perform research and analysis on given visual subjects, generate mood boards and sketches that present options and solutions within the remit provided.
Finally, you will be expected to develop and maintain a strong understanding of the product goals and design direction, ensuring that all output adheres to and is complementary to the core game pillars and brand values.

- At least 1+ shipped title in a Lead position.
- Expert knowledge of Photoshop and other digital art tools.
- Excellent drawing and conceptualisation skills with an ability to adapt to established styles and generate character, environment and prop focused concept art.
- Proven ability to generate a visual solution to a complex brief, whilst adhering closely to the art pillars of the project.
- Solid knowledge of fundamental illustration skills including composition, perspective, lighting and colour theory.
- In-depth anatomical and architectural knowledge.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
- Adaptable and versatile: a can-do attitude.
- People management and project planning experience.
A portfolio is required which will need to demonstrate:
- High quality, realistic styled examples of target quality concept art images for human based characters, environments and props.
- High quality, realistic styled examples of production focused illustrations that convey the key aspects of form, function, and material which would then allow an artist to translate the illustration into an actual game asset.
