About the role

St Neots Library is a vibrant, busy library set in the heart of the local community, with a small and friendly team of staff. We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and versatile person to create a welcoming environment for a diverse range of customers. You will be excellent at multi-tasking, proactive, creative, quick and efficient, and enjoy working under pressure. The ability to communicate clearly and confidently is essential.

This post is based in St Neots library with occasional cover in Buckden Library.

Staff from St Neots library support a wider team which includes Buckden library, and occasionally other libraries in the Hunts District.

This is a 20 hour per week post. Salary is pro-rata.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will be passionate about what public libraries can offer, and able to promote our services. This is primarily a customer facing role working in the library, dealing with enquiries, processing stock, carrying out admin work and also assisting with and running events. Although there is plenty of routine work, there are many opportunities to be creative.

Although library experience is an advantage, we would like to hear from candidates who have demonstrated exceptional customer service skills in other contexts. Training will be given on specific library systems, but an ability to work with IT is assumed.

You will:

  • Be confident working on your own using your initiative.
  • Have excellent communication and digital skills.
  • Be able to work with volunteers and partners
  • Be able to quickly master the varied aspects of library routine, including front line customer care, using the library management system, the self-service machines. handling cash, stock requests and stock circulation procedures.
