Job Title: Programme Officer, Urban Design London (UDL)
Reporting to: Business Manager
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum
Location: Hybrid (Mainly WFH with at least one office day in central London)
Duration: 12 Months FTC
Job Overview
This Programme Officer role is positioned within a small but growing not-for-profit organisation that delivers an event training programme of 100+ events per year to predominantly public-sector built environment professionals.
This role will lead on the development and implementation of UDL's communications. This includes promoting our schedule of training events for both our long-standing London Programme and our fast-growing National Programme, as well as other services we provide to both member organisations and the wider built environment industry.
Most excitingly, we have a new online resource library (UDL Bites) and offer for bespoke training on built environment topics for local planning authorities that need developing and will offer the role holder a great opportunity for personal accountability, growth and development.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and implement effective comms strategy that encompasses all of our activities and media channels
- Review and improve existing comms templates (e.g. event booking confirmation emails etc) to ensure we're engaging our audience
- Write and optimise content for the website, digital newsletters and social media - choosing the most appropriate method of communication for the situation
- Manage contacts lists of over 10,000 on CRM database (Airtable) and MailChimp in order to target our comms more effectively
- Create 'UDL Bites' which are short videos snipped from live events formatted and made available for online resource library or other customer requirements
- Develop a feasible business model for the creation and use of 'UDL Bites' (e.g. subscription avenues, pay per view options etc) and then deliver to this model
- Manage the UDL website and ensure information is accurate and easy to search for and use
- Create regular content for social media (predominantly Twitter and LinkedIn) to improve UDL's online presence and engagement with the industry
- Create high quality documents/reports and other visual materials that can be shared with members and other stakeholders; e.g. annual delivery report, annual Takeaways magazine, quarterly updates for members
- Develop and deliver well-executed and effective campaigns; particularly to promote our training programmes, schools and 'UDL Bites' offer
- Create effective news releases to gain positive press coverage about UDL's role in the industry and any current/relevant work

Understanding of basic business planning, invoicing requirements

Interest in urban design issues including public realm and street design, building design and planning policy and development management.

Work experience relevant to this roles accountabilities
UDL is hosted by TfL, which includes TfL providing HR support. It is a separate body that is managed by a Board made up of the GLA, TfL and London Councils.
UDL runs training and provides other built environment support for London local authorities, housing associations and others. It generates its own income to pay its staff salaries and other costs and its head count, team make up, businesses plan and delivery requirement are agreed by its Board.
