The Strategy and Communications team provide leadership, management and delivery of key Council functions along with communications and engagement activity inside & outside the Council.
We are looking for an experienced communications professional who is a committed and energetic leader to be our Head of Communications & Engagement.
Working with colleagues across the Council’s services and functions, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Council’s approach to communications and engagement.
As Head of Communications & Engagement, you will support the Council’s Chief Executive and Director of Corporate Strategy & Communications on ensuring the right strategies and initiatives are in place to create and maintain open, positive, effective communication and engagement activities.

Your Day-to-Day…
- Leading on the development and delivery of the Council’s communications and engagement strategy, internally and externally
- Advising Members and senior Officers on the full range of communications issues
- Building positive relationships with media and other communications outlets
- Providing advice on matters which will ensure the Corporate Plan and the Council’s priorities are well communicated and understood across the organisation
- Building a great working environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect
- Delivering excellent performance across our team whilst managing risk and change

- A confident resilient leader who can model and demonstrate organisational values & leadership behaviours
- Proven in achieving leadership success working in a large and complex organisation with demonstrable experience of devising effective communication and engagement strategies
- Experienced and comfortable working in a political environment
- Able to translate complex ideas and information into meaningful & “user-friendly” information
- Experienced in positive and productive working with the media to help the Council engage and communicate
- Well versed in building and working with different tools to ensure the workforce feel well informed and involved in shaping their working arrangements, practices and impact.
