Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) are non-statutory bodies responsible for local economic development in England. We are business-led partnerships that bring together the private sector, local authorities and academic and voluntary institutions. We work with central government to set local investment priorities, as well as local employers and job centres to help people back to work, we lead changes in how businesses are regulated locally, support high-growth local businesses, and help deliver national priorities such as digital infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

The role
Attracting new Inward investment into our region is essential to better people’s lives & deliver on our good growth economic development ambitions. Identifying our sector niches, regional assets and unique selling points is fundamental to attracting new investors. The formation of sector investment clusters, bringing together partners, key businesses, HE & skills providers, research organisations & Department of International Trade is also fundamental to this development. Presenting & marketing these defined sector strengths to the world will be a huge step forward for the region.
The main goal of this role is to increase investment within our identified growth sectors and create good quality jobs and growth for the future.
As a Sector Development Relationship Manager, you will work with the Senior Manager for Trade & Investment to develop strategy & implementation plans for several development steps
- Further define our sectoral strengths, engaging with relevant partners from around the region
- Present & report findings and recommendations
- Once defined, unite/develop & lead relevant sector investment clusters
- Work with marketing partners to build marketing assets
- Working with partners, promote these assets to the world & arrange/host trade missions to the region.
Working with the Service Senior Manager, you will need to effectively provide appropriate written and oral information, in an extensive range of formats, to a wide range of audiences including LEP Boards, Local Authorities, Key Stakeholders, Government Departments, etc.
You will be expected to travel around the region, engaging with cluster partners & hosting investor visits. Some national & International travel may be required but this will be limited.
What you will bring.
To be successful you must be able to demonstrate the personal transferrable skills needed to deliver this development role. No one day will be the same so you must be comfortable with change and working in a fast-paced, impact driven team. Working on your own initiative to problem solve and deliver agreed stepped objectives in your own authentic style is essential.
You will be highly organised, work from your own initiative, and have the ability to identify and pursue opportunities for programme development. It is imperative you hold excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to confidently use persuasion, influencing and/or negotiation techniques to influence others in difficult situations.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with some experience of inward investment and/or relevant sectors, however, if you are a strategic thinker who understands the programme steps to develop clusters & programmes, with a willing to learn about the investment landscape and how it helps the economy then we would love to hear from you.
