An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with an interest in Huntington's disease to join Professor Roger Barker's team as a clinical research associate in the department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge.
The group works at the interface of clinical and laboratory science, aiming to better understand Huntington's disease and the underlying biological basis of this, with a view to developing more targeted and personalized therapies.
The successful candidate will ply a critical role in supporting research in the Huntington's disease clinic especially around a new biomarker that uses surface-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). The post holder will have the opportunity to work with people with Huntington's disease and gain experience in clinical research, including performing clinical and neuropsychological assessments and collecting biosamples. They will have the opportunity to assist with ongoing clinical trials taking place within the group. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute There will also be opportunities to contribute to related research running within the lab, including projects in Parkinson's Disease.
We seek applicants with a medical degree. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in a patient-facing role, and relevant knowledge in the field of neurodegeneration as well as experience with SERS. Previous research experience would be an advantage. The post holder will be required to work flexibly within a clinical and scientific team of research assistants, doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and clinicians. They will be expected to demonstrate a compassionate and thoughtful manner in their approach to both patients and their families, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to have meticulous approach to data and record keeping. The post is available at 100% full-time equivalent for a 1 year.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with children and adults' barred lists) and a health assessment. This appointment also requires NMC Registration, a Research Passport application and an Honorary Clinical Contract.
