We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Research Nurse to join our Surgical Research Team at Southmead Hospital.
Our surgical research team covers the areas of Colorectal and UGI, Breast and Vascular Surgery. This post will be focused on the delivery of Vascular Colorectal and general surgery research. Preferences will be considered, however flexibility through all the portfolios is welcomed.
This post requires an experienced nurse preferably who already has experience in Surgery with a desirable quality of experience in Research.
In this role, you will be responsible for the feasibility assessment, set up and subsequent recruitment and follow up to the studies; you will have the support of our senior research nurse and all the team.

- Assess trial protocols and advise on safety, regulatory and logistical issues in the running of the trial
- With the PI and senior nurse actively assess the feasibility of studies to be undertaken
- Maintain Investigator Site File(s) and complete Case Report File / eCRF with a high degree of accuracy with the help from our reserach administrators.
- Performs all visits, observations, and interventions with the participants in accordance with the procedures and schedule of the study protocol.
- Ensure appropriate trial information and data is contained in patient’s hospital notes.
- Communicates to the Senior research nurse and Clinical Research lead lead regarding research subjects, trial progress, workload issues and personal development.
- Ensure all data clarification issues are resolved quickly
- May be expected to supervise junior members of the team, under overall supervision and guidance of senior research staff.
- Competent in and uses on a daily basis word, spreadsheet and database programs, patient administration systems and the departmental software planning system “wall chart.”
- Regularly uses software to develop documents or reports, including spreadsheets for external agencies where manipulation of the formulae is required (e.g. electronic data capture).

We are looking for:
- A qualified nurse with current NMC registration
- Experience of Clinical Research is desirable as is an understanding of the Good Clinical Practice course.
- With recent nursing experience in surgery
- A desire to make a real difference to clinical care
- Meticulous nursing practice with outstanding attention to detail
- Good IT skills
- Team player who can be flexible and adaptable according to the needs of the service and the team.
- Someone who likes variety and would cherish the challenge of studies in all areas of Surgery.
