Job description

We’re looking for a Claims Specialist to join our Legal Operations team on a permanent basis.

Reporting into the Claims Team Manager you will be working as part of a great team, you will focus predominantly on handling several high value and complex property damage claims, including opportunities to lead on complex shipping claims being progressed in the Admiralty Court of the Republic of Ireland.

You will lead a mixed portfolio of cases across all 3 tracks with the value and complexity determined by the nature of the damage caused. This means you should have a good working knowledge of pre- and post-litigation procedure across the civil court hierarchy in England & Wales.

You will own and progress all aspects of damage claims including receiving instructions from our stakeholders, research and investigation, advice, quality communications, business collaboration and process improvement. Throughout you will maintain the professional reputation of the department.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide commercially focused, accurate and effective legal advice on a broad range of property damage matters, including legal advisory support to several our stakeholders including Virgin Media O2 Limited.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day conduct or pre- and post-litigated legal claims.
  • Research and apply current legislation and consider this alongside case law to properly advise and support our stakeholders.
  • Be responsible for the timely resolution of matters in accordance with specific SLAs or KPIs relevant to your work type.
  • Manage your cases to a high standard, with integrity, in compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements with the ability to manage your own time and to prioritise.
  • Draft and communicate with care and skill to uphold the professional image of the wider Department.
  • Proactively progressing matters to a conclusion through efficient and effective planning and management to meet competing demands, actively working alongside team members within and outside the legal team.
  • Being curious – identifying risk and raising where appropriate, recommending mitigation strategies, and implementing solutions.

We tend to look for people with:

  • Qualified Solicitor/CILEX with 2 – 5 years PQE
  • Experience of Small, Fast and Multi Track litigation and good practical knowledge of the CPR are crucial for this role.
  • Experience of commercial litigation gained in the industry and/or experience of handling claims for the Communications or Utilities Industries, or Local Authority would be beneficial.
  • Listens to and understands stakeholder’s requirements
  • Good negotiating skills
