Saheliya Cleaner/Caretaker

Job Hours 30 hrs per week; 7am to 1pm, Monday to Friday
Salary Scottish Living Wage - £9.90 per hour, rising to £10.90 from 1stMay

Saheliya is a specialist mental health and well-being support organisation working with women (12+ years) experiencing racial inequality in Edinburgh, Glasgow and other parts of Scotland
Key Role
Maintain a high level of cleanliness within Saheliya’s office premises and Saheliya’s Nursery.
Presenting a high degree of professional and personal integrity.
Daily duties (Monday to Friday) include:
- Clean toilet areas including sweeping and mopping floors
- Wash, disinfect all wash surfaces, sanitary ware and WC’s
- Disinfect all door handles in the nursery, nursery corridor
- Sweep and mop all hardfloor areas in the office premises and the nursery
- Hoover the carpeted areas in the nursery
- Set up and organise meeting/training rooms, assist with setting up refreshments when required
- Keep the reception area and communal areas tidy
- Ensure fire exits are not blocked and kept clear at all times
- Ensure fire doors are kept closed at all times
- Keep the kitchen and storage areas tidy
- Load and unload the dishwasher
- Wipe down desks in the meeting/training rooms
- Replenishment of washroom consumables
- Empty all waste bins and dispose of in correct bins
- Any other relevant tasks that may arise
Weekly/Monthly duties include:
- Wipe down toilet walls and tiles - weekly
- Disinfect all desks, IT equipment, phone handsets - weekly
- Disinfect light switches and doors – weekly
- Hoover all carpeted areas in the office premises – weekly
- Dust and clean all window ledges,doors and skirtings – monthly
- Brush and pick up litter in the nursery garden and car park garden – weekly
- Deep clean of all carptets/hardfloors – monthly
- Clean/wipe all radiators and heaters – monthly
- Any other relevant tasks that may arise
- Support of COSHH system and storage where applicable
Key Competencies:
Ability to communicate in English
Patience, tolerance, and flexibility
Experience of practical cleaning skills
Ability to multi task and work on own initiative
Able to work as a member of a team
Knowledge of health and safety in respect of general cleaning and use of products/equipment
Willingness to participate in other relevant work if required
Desirable requirements:
- Experience of working with vulnerable people from BAME backgrounds
- An understanding of the voluntary and public sectors within Scotland
- An understanding of the policy context Saheliya works within
