Job description
Our client, a leading facilities management company, are looking for a Caretaker to cover a variety of primary and secondary schools in the North Birmingham area. Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Opening the school and checking buildings and grounds at the start of the day
- Locking and securing all doors, windows and perimeter gates at the end of each day, including activating/deactivating alarms
- Responsible for site security and checks
- Checking heating and lighting is functional everywhere and available as required
- Check domestic hot water is functional and available if required
- Make safe areas of danger e.g. broken windows
- Carry out basic repairs and remedial work
- Carry out cleaning work related to toilet and bodily fluids as required
- Keep all outdoor areas, paths, steps, approaches and drain grids in clean condition and litter free including emptying the bins outside
- Carry out portering-type duties, such as moving furniture around
- Carry out minor H&S checks (fire system, emergency lighting, fire appliances, water systems) and record data
- Clear pathways, steps of snow and apply grit to ensure surfaces are safe as required
- Carry out inductions for contractors
- Report any faults that need urgent attention
The suitable applicant will ideally have experience within a similar role, be flexible to work in more than one location and available to work shifts between the hours of 6am – 6pm. The role requires joining the on-call rota which may at times involve being called to the school to reset an alarm that’s been activated for example.
Duration: 6 month FTC (this could be extended to permanent)
Salary: £24,000 pa
On call: 1 in 4 – standby rate of £100 paid per on call week
Hours of work: 7.5 hours days which are rotated between the hours of 6am – 6pm Monday to Friday
Location: You will have a main base at the larger site but will be required to work at 2 other schools in the North Birmingham area as and when the business requires
