Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time)
Location: Ryton, Coventry – Hybrid Working
Salary: RCS H – starting at £70,000, Car or car allowance and excellent bonus structure

About the role.

As a result of the DHL Parcel expansion plan, we have an opening for an experienced Business Development Director to join the Key Accounts team where they will help drive the business growth agenda across the UKJ region. This is achieved through the successful on-boarding of new customers and the growth of existing customer accounts.

The role holder will have a proven track record of developing and leveraging constructive relationships within target accounts to gain access to key decision makers and establishing a coach network. The Business Development Director will pro-actively manage the end-to-end lifecycle of Key Account Management to include service review meetings, contract renewal and additional services.

As a Business Development Director, you will also have responsibility for generating new business, contributing to the growth of the Key Accounts business. You will achieve this through the successful identification, assessment, pursuit, and winning new Customer accounts. You will have a focus on accounts with an annual spend ranging between £600,000 - £1million, where you will utilise your expertise in Business Development and sector knowledge to act as a consultant to potential customers, allowing you strong relationships to be built and to develop a deep understanding of the customers’ needs to enable a successful bid and tender.

To be successful as Business Development Director for DHL Parcel, you will need to have an extensive career within direct sales, ideally gained within a Key Accounts or Corporates Account department. You will be driven and dedicated to the business development lifecycle and your motivation is fueled by the success of winning new business. The ability to understand a customer’s needs and interpreting this into a solution is a must have, as is experience of managing customer accounts following their integration.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Conduct research on strategically prioritised areas, sectors and target accounts to identify potential areas for business opportunities.
  • Pro-actively identify opportunities within target accounts and answer incoming RFQs.
  • Map and assess stakeholders within assigned target accounts.
  • Conduct internal & external research to identify customer's requirements and business objectives.
  • Develop a structured plan on how to win the opportunity (win-plan).
  • Identify and assess business fit of customer with DHL Parcel and develop convincing business fit presentation.
  • Present solution to customer demonstrating clear business value, engage in negotiations and close the deal.
  • Collect customer feedback after opportunity and conduct internal Post-Opportunity Review.
  • Maintain access to key target account stakeholders, position DHL Parcel and continuously review business opportunity potential.

What are the requirements?

  • Currently operating within Business Development with an active focus on new business generation.
  • Parcel sector knowledge would be preferred, will consider supply chain, logistics, freight, or equivalent sectors.
  • Experience of winning and managing key accounts with an annual spend up to £1million.
  • Skilled in the end-to-end business development process and the ability to identify new business opportunities.
  • The ability to Develop and present solution proposals and business fit to decision makers, engage in negotiations and close the deal with support from subject matter experts.
