Bookkeeper
Shelley Engineering is one of London's leading steel fabricators with a reputation for quality and service.
We are looking for a bookkeeper to support our management team based in Mitcham, south London. The ideal candidate will be fully proficient with all aspects of bookkeeping and have excellent interpersonal and team player skills.
Role Outline
Working as part of a team of managers and engineers, you will be responsible for providing the full range of bookkeeping duties related to managing financial records. These responsibilities will include:
- Processing payments, invoices, income and receipts and entering data into accounting software or databases
- Preparing financial statements showing business income and expenditure
- Paying vendor invoices and tracking bank account balances
- Completing VAT returns
- Verifying the accuracy of business accounts and alerting the accountant of errors
- Recording any inconsistencies to help reconcile inaccuracies
- Producing monthly financial statements including cash flow, profit and loss and balance sheets
- Preparing employee wages and HMRC submissions
- Managing employee expense claims
- Helping with administrative duties and the preparation of yearly accounts
- Corresponding with customers, suppliers via email and telephone
- Credit control
- Sending and importing sales invoices
- General office duties as needed
Skills and experience required:
Proven experience of bookkeeping and good understanding of bookkeeping tasks
Good organisational and communication skills
Experience with Sage Software preferred but not essential
Attention to and eye for details - with a logical approach to problem solving
Good understanding of Microsoft word and Excel
Previous manufacturing or construction industry experience desirable, but no essential
Personal skills, Pay and Benefits
Must be motivated and proactive and able to work on own and as part of a diverse team of managers and engineers
Must be punctual, reliable and have a hard-working attitude.
Hours: 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30 - 2.30pm on Friday (37.5 hours per week)
Salary £28K - £30K depending on experience
