Sodexo Live have an exciting new opportunity for an Operations/Sports Bar Manager to be based at DW Stadium. Whelan’s Sports Bar is a brand-new area within this awesome stadium, the home to Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors. Here you will manage and run the Sports Bar on match day and non-match days managing the services and teams to ensure business deadlines and targets are met.
This is a great opportunity for someone to take ownership and accountability within this popular destination. It would be ideal for someone who has bar work management experience within a fast-faced environment. You will need to be able to prioritise workloads effectively with good attention to detail and great planning skills. Excellent communications skills will be key as you lead the team by example and take responsibility when needed, acting with initiative, demonstrating energy and enthusiasm.
Main ResponsibilitiesWhat you’ll do:
- Oversee general management and take ownership of Whelan’s Sports Bar including management, marketing, and event conception.
- Manage the Whelan’s Sports Bar team to ensure that both business objectives and standards are delivered competently and consistently; develop a motivated, respectful, trusted and stable team by giving clear direction, sharing information and employee engagement
- Ensure that all the company’s accountancy practices are adhered to at all times
- Monitor costs and expenditure to be controlled in line with budget
- Ensure that the area has a business plan to be reviewed at least quarterly showing key objectives, goals and measures that link to the overall business plan and strategy
- Be certain the area has a GREAT training plan
- Liaise with other departments to ensure that the unit payroll is administered and inputted correctly
- Lead and manage the Sports Bar team and actively promote DW Stadium for both internal and external clientele
- Undertake duty management and operational shifts as required
- Control GP through ensuring stock is managed.
- Seek new ways to drive revenues and maximise sales across the area.
- Ensure the area complies with all company and client policies, site rules and statutory regulations i.e. licencing laws, Trading Standards and EHO.
- Manage the H&S operational requirements for the area.

The Ideal CandidateWhat you bring:
Essential
- High standard of literacy and numeracy
- Experience in leading a Bar and Event operations team
- Experience working in a stadium or large event environment
- Expertly manage day to day challenging client relationships
- Well-developed verbal, non-verbal, presentation and communication skills
- Experience of delivering high quality hospitality operations
- Proven experience in managing P&L accounts and driving profitability
- Operational knowledge, skills and experience in managing multi service operations
- Management of large and diverse teams
- Manage multiple workloads and shifting priorities
- Deliver excellence in operational service standards and customer satisfaction
- Demonstrate resilience when faced with conflicting business challenges
- Ability to interpret and utilise varied financial and commercial information
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, clients and employees at all levels

- Personal Licence Holder
- Knowledge of the Wigan / Northwest area demographic
