Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for 3 Health Care Assistants to join our team on the OPAD Unit at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. We are looking for individuals who are looking to develop their skills and who are passionate about the health care of older people. The OPAD Unit is a 12 bedded unit which works alongside Accident and Emergency Department to ensure that our older patients are reviewed and assessed in a timely manner. Will need to be flexible to work days/night
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The post holder works as part of the ward / department team under the supervision of registered nurses and:
- Participates in the delivery of patient centred care, maintaining a compassionate and
professional attitude at all times.
- Contributes to the ward / department organisation.
- Support registered nurses in the provision of a caring and safe environment.
The post holder will demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills as required within a time frame agreed with their manager following the completion of appropriate training and education. The Band 2 Health Care Assistant will function at a competency level in line with the requirements of the post and achieve and maintain both mandatory and statutory training requirements associated with the role.

- Functional skills Level 2 English Language and Maths Qualification or GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English Language
- Care Certificate or evidence or Training & Development associated with Health Care Support Worker role
- Level 2/3 NVQ/ Diploma in Health
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working / participating as part of a team.
- Evidence of ability to work using own initiative and under minimal supervision (
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the role and tasks involved
- Can articulate the reasons for training/ standards of practice and behaviour and how these may be demonstrated / relate to patient care and safety
Desirable
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a care environment in the last 12 months
