The Highfield unit is a purpose-built tier 4, inpatient CAMHS unit. We are a multidisciplinary team offering acute inpatient and day patient admission for young people with acute and complex mental health problems.

We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to join our energetic and passionate team, supervised by clinical psychologists, and working alongside Nurses, Doctors, Healthcare Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Family Therapists, Dieticians, and Teaching staff.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative psychology graduate who can work independently and as part of a team. Your main responsibility will be working on symptom and outcome measurement (including administration, scoring, interpretation, reporting and liaison). Other key roles include:

  • Contributing to and co-facilitating therapeutic groups on the ward including DBT skills group and a psychoeducation group for eating disorders
  • Joining and supporting the work of designated working parties around issues such as social media use and staff wellbeing
  • The administration of standardised neuropsychological assessments (e.g. WISC-V) under supervision. Appropriate training will be provided.
  • Working therapeutically with young people for discrete interventions on an individual basis, under supervision from clinical psychology
  • Supporting the Clinical Psychology team in developing and disseminating psychological formulations for all young people admitted to the ward
  • Supporting other audit and service evaluation work as required

We provide care for young people with a range of difficulties including eating disorders, anxiety and OCD, depression and bipolar mood disorders, unusual experiences and psychosis, trauma, self-harm, and relationship and attachment-based difficulties. Families are often contending with multiple and complex psycho-social difficulties, and we aim to take a holistic approach guided by evidence and best-practice.

  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
