About our Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Site Operations Manager to lead and oversee our Centre of Excellence R&D facility. As a key member of our management team and working closely with the Engineering Manager this is an opportunity to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the site, optimise processes foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment and drive operational excellence of a newly formed team. This role will require an experience Operational Manager into a new environment where the focus is on experimental activity, demonstrating and developing new technologies as opposed to a focus on a product output.

This is a unique opportunity to support a developing and growing business and will suit a hardworking, ambitious and intelligent individual who wishes to take on a challenge that is out of the ordinary. This is a key role within the business and allows the ideal candidate an opportunity to develop and grow as the current site moves through a major construction project and into an operationally active manufacturing site. With overall responsibility for site activity, this role will involve working closely with the Executive team and other key supervisors within the organisation.

Collaborating with leading industry experts from the glass and technology sectors as well as scientists and engineers from across the business to enable world first demonstrations of new technologies, a strong background in industry (plastics, polymer, chemical, steel, glass) is highly advantageous for this role, however we are also open to hearing from exceptional experienced candidates with a wide scope of experience, demonstrable transferable skills, and core values aligned with our own to become an essential part of our team.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operations of site systems in compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Supervise a team of dedicated and qualified operational staff, H&S advisors and subject matter experts
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve safety protocols, emergency response plans, operational activity and regular maintenance schedules, driving standards across work activities, housekeeping and project activities
  • Collaborate with vendors, suppliers and service contractors to coordinate site repairs, maintenance and upgrades to equipment
  • Collaborating with internal customers, managing resourcing of personnel and involvement in multiple project and operational activities to deliver results within set time periods and budgets
  • Monitor and manage budget allocation for site facilities, maintenance, utilities and labour
  • Liaise with external parties and visitors to site, hosting important customers and other key stakeholders
  • Ensure accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections and incident reports are kept up to date
  • Proficiency in procurement processes and vendor relations
  • Proven ability to manage emergency situations and ensure swift resolution

Person Specification:

  • Someone who promotes and believes in a safety first culture
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within industry with confidence to effectively manage people, drive change, inspire excellence and develop individuals within a team
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects and work streams simultaneously
  • Proven experience at leading Continuous Improvement and managing change
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability of working with cross functional teams
  • Adaptable to frequently changing circumstances, can work flexibly and able to influence and motivate team members in these areas

Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering, manufacturing or relevant field
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience within a heavy process plant/manufacturing/engineering environment, preferably within the glass industry
  • A recognised leadership qualification (e.g. CMI, ILM, MBA) or proven experience of managing effectively
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and manufacturing technologies
  • Experience of managing KPI’s, procurement and finance processes
  • NEBOSH/IOSH managing safely certification or proven H&S experience
  • Knowledge of LOTO and permits to work
  • In-depth understanding of CDM, Health, Safety and Environmental compliance
  • Comfortable with a continuous manufacturing environment
  • Willing and able to travel to support the team and for development opportunities

Salary:
£50-£60K dependent on experience

Working Hours:
Full time, Monday to Friday 37.5 hours - we work flexibly within our core hours of 8am-4pm to support essential work life balance. Occasionally working out of hours due to the nature of the business and occasionally visiting customers or customer sites nationally and internationally.

Location:
Site based at our Centre of Excellence in St Helens.

Holidays:
25 days holiday plus bank holidays (FTE), pro rata may apply. Plus, additional service days.
