Enthusiastic individuals are sought to make a major contribution to the Department’s activities in research and teaching. You will hold a PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline. You will have an outstanding academic record, with indicators such as impactful publications in peer-reviewed venues, significant software artefact design and implementation, and academic awards within the field of Quantum Computing. You will have a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education.

This is an opportunity to join one of the UK’s most successful Computer Science departments and to be part of an exciting time of growth in the Department. We are looking for candidates especially in the following areas within the Quantum Computing theme:

  • Quantum Algorithms
  • Quantum Complexity
  • Quantum Cryptography
  • Quantum Machine Learning
  • Quantum Information Theory

3. a teaching statement (max 3 pages);
4. a Curriculum Vitae with a list of publications, where up to five most important publications are highlighted.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

You will undertake research, teaching, administration and other activities which support the work of the Department and develop and enhance its reputation, both internally and externally to the University.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Research

1. To pursue individual and collaborative research of high quality, consistent with making a substantial research contribution.

2. To publish research outcomes in appropriate conferences and journals of international standing, and to disseminate the results of research and scholarship in other reputable outlets.

3. As part of your research agenda, to plan or pursue research with an impact on society (related to e.g. individual health and behaviour, economic success, government policy etc.), and to aid in further developing the impact and benefits to society arising from that research.

4. To stimulate interaction between relevant research communities at Warwick and with external collaborators.

5. To attend and present research findings and papers at academic and professional conferences and to contribute to the external visibility of the Department.

6. To seek, in collaboration with colleagues as appropriate, external funding through research grants or contracts to support a developing research agenda.

7. To manage research projects within the University, including their financial control and to supervise post-doctoral research assistants, research students, technical and other support staff engaged in research.

8. To consider the value of research achievements within their potential commercial context and, where appropriate, with the assistance of Warwick Research and Impact Services, take appropriate action to ensure that intellectual property rights are protected.

9. To contribute to the research plans developed by the Department including providing such information as may be required.

10. Where appropriate, to contribute to the development of impact case studies and to assist the Department in submitting these for the Research Excellence Framework or other purposes.


Teaching

1. To teach and supervise students in computer science and related topics. To give lectures, seminars, tutorials and other classes as appropriate in support of the Department’s required teaching obligations, and to supervise dissertation work by postgraduate and undergraduate students.

2. To contribute to the supervision and training activities of PhD students.

3. To co-operate with colleagues in the continuous review and development of the curriculum, and in the design and launch of new degrees or other academic awards where appropriate.

4. To undertake academic duties (i.e. setting examinations, marking, invigilation and pastoral support of students) required to sustain the delivery of high quality teaching.

5. To maintain a broad knowledge of up-to-date research and scholarship in relevant fields to ensure that teaching meets the high standards expected within a research-led University.


Administration and other Activities

1. To undertake such specific roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the Head of Department.

2. To attend relevant meetings and to participate in other committees and working groups within the Department, the University and other stakeholders.

3. To engage in continuous professional development. As part of probation, this involves timely participation in and progress on Warwick’s Academic and Professional Pathway for Teaching Excellence.

4. To undertake external commitments which maintain and enhance the reputation of the University.
