As an Assistant Merchandiser , you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of product strategy. You will work in a tightly knit Merchandising unit, working alongside your Buying teams to ensure that the right product is in the right place at the right time to maximise sales and profit performance.

You will have ownership of your own sections and work with the Merchandising and Buying leadership teams, developing critical communication and influencing skills. Alongside your Merchandiser, you will develop and manage trend-led ranges that surprise and delight customers, that are commercially competitive and that deliver on our clients value proposition.

While supporting my client as a global brand, you will also understand their regional customers, and use data and analytics to tailor ranges which will deliver for the different customers in all our global markets.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Commercial Awareness:

  • Assist the Merchandiser in the delivery of the sales, stock turn and contribution budgets
  • Develop a robust knowledge of the regional customer and use this knowledge to make recommendations and tailor your ranges.

Strategy and Planning:

  • Support Merchandiser in building a commercial and strategic range which considers regional differences, and allows balance of newness, colour, price and product attributes, relevant to season and grades.
  • Awareness of the development of the range and option plans
  • Work alongside Trainee Merchandiser to ensure delivery of day-to-day activity including reporting, stock management, line projections, sales, options,stock and markdowns.
  • Identify styles for markdown, and make recommendations relating to markdowns to Merchandiser
  • Support Trainee Merchandiser with producing reports including strategy, sign off and store range presentations. Check for accuracy and give feedback to support the Trainee Merchandiser’s development.
  • Responsible for the checking, updating and maintaining of store and style grading ensuring all opportunities are maximised and any problems de-risked
  • Responsible with the Buying team for the trigger presentation quantities of the styles in Core Line Replenishment upon agreement with Retail Responsible for communicating these quantities to Retail and Objectivity
  • Assisting the Merchandiser on the production of planograms

Forecasting and Trading:

  • Manage tools and reporting to review information and ensure that all aspects of strategic planning are met (including WSSIs, Line Projections, Option Planning and Budgeting)
  • To conduct regular trading reviews with the Buying teams to maximise sales and manage stock levels
  • To identify current and future trading opportunities and advise Merchandiser & Head of Merchandising
  • Identify and manage any trading risks and advise Merchandiser & Head of Merchandising
  • To set up, maintain and update the Sales, Stocks, Intakes and Markdowns on the WSSI’s and to review them regularly. Inform the Merchandiser of any recommendations
  • Informing actions as necessary to the Head of Buying and Buying teams
  • To make decisions relating to Line Projections and be responsible for managing these.
  • To be responsible for investigating and resolving any data inaccuracies
  • To identify and report stock overages and shortages against the WSSI's and report them to the leadership team
  • To ensure current commitment records have been maintained accurately
  • To be responsible for the accuracy of the BSG for own sections (groupings/markdown screens/price/style descriptions)
  • Assist the Merchandiser in the completion of all company submits

Product Knowledge:

  • Develop a deep, broad knowledge of product in multiple product areas. Consider factors such as past products and competitor analysis.
  • Drive innovation and use insights to identify future trends and make recommendations on these.
  • Stay commercially aware and use your knowledge of customer behaviour to continuously seek to offer outstanding product and value to our customer.

Skills & Experience:

Knowledge, education, skills and experience:

  • 3 years’ experience in a Merchandising, Analytical or Finance-related role with experience equivalent to Assistant Merchandiser level.
  • Relevant qualification in a fashion, analytical or commerce-related subject, or equivalent experience
  • You will be a skilled influencer, and a strong relationship builder with a proven record of managing stakeholders cross functionally.
  • Strategic thinker, with strong numerical acumen and the ability to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, engagement and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, team based, deadline-oriented environment. The ability to effectively manage complex tasks and competing priorities.
