Queen’s Gate is a happy, bustling GSA day school for girls aged 4 –18 and is ideally situated in Central London to take advantage of the many educational opportunities on offer. Our Junior School is a thriving community of around 130 pupils, where each girl is known for her own individual gifts and talents, and nurtured to achieve beyond her potential.
We wish to appoint as soon as possible an Assistant Librarian to provide support in our Junior School Library during the maternity leave of one of our colleagues. The role would suit someone keen to gain experience in an education setting, but no formal teaching qualifications are required. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, keen to learn, and excited by the prospect of working closely with our younger pupils.
The job description includes:
- Deputise for the Head Librarian in the day-to-day management of the Junior School Library.
- Help students and staff to identify, locate and access the information they need; advise pupils on a suitable choice of book depending on their reading ability and interests.
- Mediate between learners and resources to enable learners to identify, locate and access the information they need, instructing learners on use of the electronic library catalogue.
- Deliver information and library skills lessons that teach the core skills of independent learning to Junior School pupils.
- Administer the computerised library management system – including overseeing book loans and overdue books, cataloguing new books, managing inventory checks and ensuring the records in the catalogue are uniform and consistent.
- Maintain and renew library displays and generally ensure that the Junior School Library has an inviting environment.
- Assist the Head Librarian with the organisation and running of library events
- Train and manage a team of pupil library assistants, including the Junior School Library Prefect, the Junior School Senior Pupil Librarian and the Junior School Pupil Librarians.
- Implement the School Library Policy, which includes compliance with Data Protection, Copyright and Health and Safety legislation in line with the whole-school policies.

The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants, for which all such applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their application.
Prior to employment commencing, successful applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the (“DBS”).
Successful applicants will also be required to produce evidence of qualifications, identity, and the right to work in the UK. Two references will be taken up, one of which will be with the most recent employer. They will also be required to complete our Health Questionnaire.
