We have an exciting 18-month opportunity for a post within BCP Educational Psychology Service, to work alongside EPs, applying psychology in a range of settings, supporting the delivery of statutory and other work including assessment, intervention, and training.

MAIN PURPOSE(S) OF THE JOB:

To apply psychology to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people including those with SEND and additional educational needs.

  • To deliver effective educational psychology support to children and young people, families, educational settings and partner agencies, aimed at optimising achievement, inclusion and emotional wellbeing.
  • To support the Council to fulfil its statutory duties in relation to vulnerable children and young people, including those with SEN and Disabilities
  • To actively contribute to the development of good practice within Children’s Services in BCP
  • To apply family and child centred approaches to working in partnership with Educational Psychologists (EPs), parents, children and young people and with other multiagency professionals

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Contribute positively and in a complimentary way to service delivery, working with and supervised by a range of EPs for casework
  • Support the provision of statutory and non-statutory educational psychology services.
  • Develop and apply knowledge and skills in: consultation, assessment, target setting, monitoring and tracking progress regarding children and young people with SEND 0 – 25 years of age.
  • Develop and apply knowledge and skills regarding SEND systems and processes and evidence based best practice interventions.
  • Provide interventions in schools and other settings as directed by the supervising EP.
  • Develop and apply up to date knowledge of local implementation of SEND legislation including BCP’s Graduated Response to SEND.
  • Contribute to improving transition practice for young people with SEND into education, employment, training and independent living.
  • Contribute to service development through evaluation work/ and or project work.
  • Work creatively with EPs, schools, other agencies and services to support individually tailored solutions at an organisational and individual level based on an understanding of evidence based best practice.
  • Contribute to the Service’s Telephone support line

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Good knowledge of ways in which psychology can be applied to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Knowledge and understanding of meeting the needs of vulnerable children including those with SEND, within an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Effective communication skills to facilitate working with colleagues, schools, a range of other professionals/agencies and children & young people.
  • A child and family focus.
  • Solution Focused Thinking.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and valuing diversity.
