Job description
We’re on the lookout for a competent and enthusiastic ecologist with a desire to learn and a
hands-on approach, who can support the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales (WTSWW) as we
promote and pursue improved nature recovery and resilience in Wales – now one of the world’s
most nature-depleted countries. The role will focus on projects in South Wales, but with
opportunity to work across our jurisdiction assisting our Conservation Officer in her work in
west and mid-Wales. The role will involve:
Working positively with partners, stakeholders, and volunteers to develop and implement the
Wildlife Trust’s species/habitat conservation work.
Supporting our Conservation Staff in species and habitat research, and wildlife surveys and
monitoring, both on and off nature reserves.
Writing and implementing management plans.
Giving advice to staff and members of the public on matters of nature and conservation.
Advancing the Trust’s ‘30by30’ target defined in our strategy by improving nature recovery,
connectivity and resilience throughout our large area of operation.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
A degree/professional/industry qualification and/or relevant experience in ecology,
covering species/habitats relevant to Wales.
Awareness of existing Nature Conservation designations and law affecting protected species
and habitats.
Surveying and monitoring species/habitats relevant to south and west Wales.
Collaborative inclusive approach to working with other individuals and organisations.
Experience of supporting a team in achieving collective goals and targets.
A clean driving licence and own vehicle available for business use.

been guided by, and is as far as possible consistent with the WTW (Welsh Wildlife Trusts)
strategy.
We believe that nature is integral to our lives. People are part of nature and all life on
earth is mutually interdependent. Everything we value comes from nature and everything we do
impacts upon wildlife.

The position will ideally start as soon as possible, dependent on notice period required.
