Gallery Associate
The Role

The Annan Gallery
Tracing roots back to 1855, the Annan Gallery is Glasgow’s oldest established gallery and one of Scotland’s most successful commercial contemporary art galleries, exhibiting paintings from many of Scotland’s leading artists, in addition a broad range of 3D applied works. The works being exhibited in the gallery constantly change with a programme of 9 to 10 different exhibitions throughout the year with a range of mixed shows or focus on one or two specific artists at a time. The current owners also own and run the Strathearn Gallery in Crieff and acquired the Annan Gallery in 2017 to grow their gallery portfolio. They are looking to expand the gallery proposition further and grow the team with the addition of a Gallery Associate. The Gallery Associate role will be based in the Annan Gallery in Glasgow.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and building client relationships to offer optimal client service at all times
- Supporting the Gallery Exhibition Programme (every 5/6 weeks) to ensure smooth and swift exhibition set up and take down
- Building artistic knowledge through understanding gallery artists and their works
- Responsibility for management of 3D work
- Updating and maintenance of gallery website to ensure all works being exhibited are featured online
- Supporting marketing of the gallery through assisting show promotion and building on existing social media presence
- Supporting gallery administrative procedures to ensure accurate sales reporting and accounting
- Responsibility for packaging and postage of works for clients and artists to ensure safe and timely shipping
- Providing ongoing support with business development initiatives and specific projects when required
- Ensuring gallery is well presented at all times and kept clean and tidy, along with office and storage areas.
The Successful Applicant
- Degree educated ideally with experience in management, business studies or marketing and sales
- A team player with a flexible and practical approach
- Great interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build relationships with clients and artists and their requests in a professional, friendly manner
- A self-starter who is driven and demonstrates initiative and a proactive attitude
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to work in a structured manner and often to work to tight deadlines
- Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail and accuracy at all times
- Enthusiastic with an interest and appreciation of art and a willingness to learn about the business
- Sales ability and commercial awareness
- Experience of managing social media and mailings
- Numbers and technology proficient with experience using Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Experience in using Photoshop and editing software would be a benefit, but not required
- Physical stamina to set up and take down exhibitions
Hours Salary and Benefits
- Part time position – 19 hours a week:
- £11.50 an hour
Days/Hours:
- Thursday and Friday 10am – 5pm,
- Sunday 11am – 4pm,
- Ad hoc cover to include Saturdays and holiday cover
- Holiday entitlement 28 days pro-rata a year.
