Shipping / Maritime solicitor – Contentious – 1 PQE +
Shipping Litigation Solicitor – Manchester
Shipping Solicitor / Associate – Our client boasts one of the leading international shipping teams who advise a host of cargo and freight companies, insurance houses and global merchants on a range of complex contentious matters. They are looking for a solicitor with a unique blend of litigation skills to join the award-winning team.
Summary
- Job title: Associate
- Location: Manchester
- Salary: £40,000 – £65,000
- Reports to: Partner
- Previous Experience: Any experience of marine / shipping law would obviously be a major advantage. The team will also consider candidates with strong commercial litigation experience or commercial insurance experience, such as professional indemnity or product liability or property damage.
A role which draws on all your skills as a lawyer
Applicants with prior experience of shipping or maritime law are obviously encouraged to apply. However, this is rather a rare skill set so the team are willing to look more broadly. For instance, those with strong commercial litigation experience should consider this opportunity as well as those with experience in areas of commercial insurance such as professional indemnity, property damage or product liability. We are also interested in hearing from candidates with proven regulatory experience.
In general terms, the role demands an accomplished lawyer, able to think ‘commercially’ at all times. Many matters occur against the background of highly valuable global shipping agreements where time is often a crucial factor. Lawyers may well also find themselves in areas where they have no previous experience or indeed there is little or no precedent.
More about the team
The shipping team undertakes a vast array of work for an impressive list of global freight businesses, marine insurers and international shipping companies. A large portion of work undertaken by the department is litigious relating to all manner of trade disputes such as shipping claims, bills of lading disputes and other breaches of contract.
The team also advises on the sale and purchase of vessels, complex marine insurance claims as well as advising on the legalities surrounding port operations. Such matters may also involve advising on inquest work and regulatory and governance matters, especially where a fatality has occurred or where there is an issue involving two or more jurisdictions.
A role which is as exciting as it is challenging
This is a highly varied, challenging and rewarding opportunity drawing on and developing a range of legal and commercial skills. For the right candidate, it offers the chance to build a career within a truly international practice area and a highly reputable firm.
