Job overview
Our Technology & Data (T&D) teams unlock the potential of technology for our customers, our colleagues and for London. In this role you’ll be supporting our Business Analysis team and working on a variety of exciting projects, such as implementing new ticket machines, updating ticketing software to support faster top ups and contactless payments and implementing a single Asset Management system for London Underground, helping to make millions of pounds worth of savings. There are numerous projects across T&D all of which are improving the technology used in TfL to keep London moving and growing. These could not happen without the involvement and groundwork undertaken by a Business Analyst.
What will I be doing?
As an apprentice, your 18-month development programme will be made up of up to 3 placement rotations, each approximately 6 months in length, supporting a variety of exciting projects. These will include a 6-month placement within the Business Analysis team and then two 6-month placements in other T&D areas, or even outside T&D. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for a successful career. We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every apprentice’s journey is unique.
For example, within the Business Analysis team, you will be gaining valuable insight in core BA skills – learning how to elicit, document and manage business requirements and write business processes in order to identify enhancements for the success of TfL and our customers – all the while developing valuable experience in engaging and managing stakeholders.
Your remaining placements can be aligned to your interests to support you in your future career. Possible placements could be within T&D Business Architecture, Software Development, Business Development, Contact Centre Operations, Data & Analytics, Payments Analysis, and more. Outside T&D, your placements could be within Surface Transport, such as Open Innovation or Compliance, Policing & On-street Services. Your Scheme Sponsor will ensure your placements are relevant and support your development.
Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of this scheme, you could roll-off into roles such asBusiness Analyst or Product Analyst, which could lead to further career development opportunities such as Senior Business Analyst, BA Team Lead, Business Architect, Product Manager and more. TfL is a large organisation and the breadth of the Business Analyst role means there are many opportunities to progress in ten years, both in the T&D department and wider TfL Organisation.
What training and support will you get?
You will be working towards a BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis, as well as other relevant courses, ranging from soft skills to technical skills training.
Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of classroom-led training courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your Scheme Sponsor and Placement Manager. You’ll also be provided a ‘buddy’ who will be a more experienced apprentice from the scheme.
We also have an established Graduate and Apprentice Committee as well as an Alumni group. These groups are powerful networks in developing your understanding of the organisation, different apprenticeship schemes and opportunities to develop your career. Many current graduates and apprentices believe this to be a powerful support network and they often hold apprentice only events that are very beneficial to your continued learning.
What do we look for?
