Job title: Animal Care Assistant
Purpose of job: To provide care and rehabilitation for wildlife patients.
Relationships:
a) Responsible to: Nominated Animal Care Manager, Vet Nurse, or in their absence the General Manager or designated senior Animal Care Assistant.
b) Responsible for: Animal care volunteers as may be appropriate for specific tasks.
c) Liaison with: Clients, vet, donors and supporters.
Main tasks of job:
Various duties as required to care for wildlife patients, including (but not limited to):
Receive patients, assess their problems, and determine the care and treatment required, liaising with the Animal Care Manager and/or vet as appropriate for advice or treatment.
Administer treatment and medication to patients, under the guidance of Animal Care Manager and/or Vet; when trained to do so.
Clean patient cages and aviaries and surrounding areas, ensuring a scrupulously high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. Also, to ensure scrupulously high standards are kept in outside enclosures, the general site, and to ensure the best possible care is given to all wildlife on the Brent Lodge site.
Feed patients.
Keep strict and up-to-date records of casualty progress, treatment and medication. Ensure the database is kept up-to-date at all times.
Handle telephone & email queries from the public, and provide high levels of customer service when receiving wildlife from members of the public.
Ensure the Brent Lodge uniform is worn when on duty and you are presentable at all times.
Training and supervision of all volunteers and work experience, ensuring all health and safety documentation has been completed and filed away correctly.
Provide assistance with fundraising activities and maintenance tasks when asked.
Assisting in customer donations, both collections and donations at the Brent Lodge site, ensuring everything is put away in designated areas and Gift Aid has been offered.

Further Job Details:
We are looking for someone to work 3 days a week, working 8-hour shifts. Working days may include weekends and bank holidays.
The rate of pay is the national minimum wage and please only apply if you have animal care experience or education in the subject. People without this will not be considered, dog walking or grooming will also not be considered.
