Organisation: Maintenance Operations - Estates and Facilities

Rate: £15.48 per hour

FTE and working pattern: 37.5 hour weekly

  • 30 mins unpaid lunch break
  • Non-guaranteed overtime at HWU rates
  • Locally arranged call-out payments
  • 28 days annual leave entitlement plus buildings closed days

Fixed term opportunity for 12 months

Purpose of Role:

We are looking to appoint an advanced plumber to join our maintenance operations team.

  • The post holder will be a time-served tradesman conversant with all aspects of plumbing on domestic and industrial sites. This will include work on ductile water mains up to 100 mm and surface and soil drainage, copper and polygrip PVC pipework installations.
  • You will carry out day to day maintenance and minor works on variety of mechanical systems in both academic and residential buildings across the University's estate

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

  • The successful applicant must a fully qualified/time served Plumber with appropriate City and Guilds/SVQ or comparable Plumbing qualifications. You should ideally have a minimum of three years post qualification and apprenticeship experience.
  • ood working knowledge of relevant BS standards, ACOP's, and Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Legionella awareness training
  • Possession of a current clean driving license and use of a car is essential to ensure travel to and from the University on Emergency Call outs.

About our Directorate and Team:

Estates and Facilities is a key professional service directorate within the University's professional services' operating structure. Facilities Services is currently one of 4 divisions within the directorate. The directorate has around 300 staff with Facilities Services being the largest team.

The University's facilities team has responsibility for managing and maintaining a diverse estate over two campuses which are Edinburgh and Galashiels. In Edinburgh, the University estate principally comprises a campus site positioned within the green belt to the West of Edinburgh. It totals 154 hectares with some 100 buildings providing a developed floor space of upwards of 160,000m², together with grounds, roads, car parks, multiple student residences, sports facilities and catering outlets.
