We are recruiting for an Accounts Trainee to start in September. This position will be based in our Oxford office and comes with a comprehensive induction and full funding to pursue professional qualifications. This is a great opportunity to join one of Oxfordshire’s leading accountancy and business advisory practices.
This role will enable you to learn how to prepare a set of statutory financial accounts and corporation tax computations for limited companies.

The Role
These are Trainee positions and full training and support will be given to develop your skills and abilities for a long-term career within our practice. You will have the below key responsibilities:
- Building productive working relationships within Shaw Gibbs and with clients as required
- Developing and applying your technical knowledge through on the job training and formal qualifications
- Using accounting software to provide accurate reporting for Managers, Partners and clients
- Producing profit and loss accounts and balance sheets
- Preparing basic tax computations and returns e.g. corporation tax
- Preparing working papers including bank reconciliations, other reconciliations and manual control accounts
- Helping to prepare statutory accounts and finalise accounts under the overall supervision of your Manager
About You
We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below:
- Educated to A ‘Level (or equivalent standard) or higher e.g. degree
- If you are a school leaver – you must have a minimum of 3 A Levels at grades B, B, C or higher
- Strong aptitude for IT, specifically Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Proven communication skills, verbal and written
- A positive, confident and proactive attitude
- Enjoy working as part of a team and self-motivated
- Willingness to undertake and succeed in a range of professional studies
Relevant work experience and/or experience of working within a practice environment would be great but not essential
