Educational and Experience Requirement
Associates degree in accounting or a related field. Five years of experience in a related field. Financial aid or other university-related work experience would be helpful. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs advanced accounting clerical work in areas such as bookkeeping or accounting for the department.
Primary Responsibilities
Serves as the primary point of contact for specific financial aid programs (Official and Unofficial Resignations, Work-Study Programs, Attendance Initiative, Tuition Rebate, etc.). Responsible for administering Return to Title IV processes in compliance with Federal Regulations. This includes counseling students, calculating financial liabilities, monitoring attendance, and reporting liabilities to students, Bursars Office, and the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). Maintains knowledge of policies of other departments (Registrar, Cashiers, Human Resources, etc.) and understand the impact of them on a student’s financial aid eligibility. Gathers and compiles data, and produces specialized reports and documents. Maintains files, records, logs, and other tracking systems. Provides assistance with and interprets policies and procedures. Maintains student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Requires answering telephones and the ability to retain and relay financial information to students and parents. During peak times, telephone periods may be extensive. Knowledge of or Experience with Financial Aid software and systems used to determine student’s eligibility and financial aid awards helpful (These may include; Ellucian’s Banner 9, NSLDS, Department of Education’s Common Origination and Disbursement website, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, MS Word, Excel, etc.). Moderate Excel proficiency required.
Up to 40% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
