Our Waterloo office is looking for an Accounting Clerk to join our Finance team!
This role is responsible for assisting the accounting sub-teams (Billing, Accounting Support, AP etc.) with the daily processing of bills, on-going Aderant accounting system maintenance and AP/AR back-up coverage.
Key responsibilities:
Billing Support
- Provides month-end & year-end billing support. Checks for signatures, fee reduction approvals, correct tax codes and ensure the information balances in the Aderant system before posting;
- Assists with the process of electronic bills. Submits invoices through the electronic billing Hub or system used by the client via internet;
- Responsible for the coordination and resolution of e-billing issues for clients.
A/R and AP Support
- Assists with the daily processing of the Accounts Receivable and WIP write-offs. Reviews the Bad Debt Write Off forms & Pre-bills to ensure they have been approved and then processes the write-offs in Aderant;
- Provide coverage for other Accounting Clerks including Cash Receipts Clerk during lunch hours or vacation period;
- Prepares cheques & out-going wires and processes electronic deposits.
General Accounting & Accounting Systems
- Assists with the testing & implementation of new software that interfaces with Aderant and new versions of Aderant;
- Assists the financial reporting group with year-end audit requests & ad-hoc reports;
- Post real estate and civil levies;
- Assist with bank and corporate credit card reconciliations.
Special Projects and Other Duties:
- Other duties and project requests by the Accounting Supervisor or Chief Financial Officer.
What you'll bring:
- College diploma in accounting or minimum 3 years work experience in an accounting department (billing, AP, AR etc.). Law firm experience preferred;
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles;
- Intermediate skills in MS Excel, knowledge of Prebill Manager and Aderant is considered an asset;
- Dedication to providing quality work product for clients and internal stakeholders;
- Strong communication skills;
- Exceptional customer service skills;
- Prioritization skills in a very busy and multi faceted environment;
- Strong attention to detail, with the understanding that incorrect billing can affect client relationships;
- Must be able to work both as a team player and independently.
