The Finance Department performs the accounting functions for the National Friends of the Children organization and chapters throughout the country. The Staff Accountant is responsible for reconciling and recording monthly transactions for both national and the chapters.

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended as a comprehensive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Record transactions for employee reimbursements for National (Concur) and the chapters
  • Record deposits through cash receipts and the accounts receivable module
  • Reconcile monthly Salesforce excel reports to the general ledger for National
  • Record bank transactions and reconcile National and chapter banks statements
  • Perform the finance training for new chapter operations managers
  • Correspond between the chapter operations managers and the National senior accountants
  • Provide documents and support as needed to Senior Accountants for year-end audits
  • Monthly credit card reconciliations for both National and chapters
  • Prepare quarterly reconciliations of chapter donor databases and the general ledger.
  • Complete year-end tasks for chapter financials
  • Prepare AR invoices for chapters’ grants as needed
  • Prepare payroll entries for chapters
  • Preparation and completion of Form 1099 & 1096 for National and chapters
  • Receives vendor invoices, reconciles supporting documents, enter into Financial Edge, gathers necessary approvals for processing, and initiate payments
  • Conversion of source documents to electronic media and maintenance of electronic and source document filing

Required Skills, Education, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Two to four years of financial accounting experience.
  • Strong GAAP/internal controls knowledge.
  • Experience in supporting multiple business entities simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Ability to work collaboratively with members of staff
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with an accounting concentration

Preferred Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Non-profit accounting experience
  • Federal grant compliance experience
  • Experience with Financial Edge
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams

Compensation:

  • Range: $ $58,000 to $68,000. (Compensation commensurate with experience and geographical location)
