HOURS: 30 hours a week until Feb 24, 40 hours per week thereafter
PAY: £26,000 pro rata (£12.50 per hour)

Purpose of the Job
The post-holder will oversee The Base, the Guildhall’s new Creative Centre for Young People, which will launch in early 2024, making best use of our facilities, which will include a band rehearsal room, AV suite, Music Production facilities and creative lounge, as well as leading on art-based events.
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to shape and create a first-class programme of music and creative arts activities for the young people of Portsmouth aged 11– 25 years old.
You will design and deliver music and creative activities for young people, as well as provide direct mentoring support, coaching, and development for young people and volunteers to ensure the highest quality provision.
You will begin by designing and coordinating a pilot programme of activities in the building running from Summer/Autumn 2023, before launching a continued programme following the opening of the space.
You will build up a reliable and trusted bank of high quality freelance facilitators, to deliver music and creative activities, ensuring they undertake relevant training and frequent briefings.

Principle roles and responsibilities

Tasks will include, but not limited to:
- To oversee The Base, the new Creative Space for Young People, which will include managing the bookings system, ensuring spaces are set up for activities and ensuring young people’s wellbeing and safety within the space.
- To plan, coordinate and deliver a comprehensive music and creative programme for young people aged 11 to 25, which will enable them to develop skills, learn about/ develop creative careers, build their confidence, social skills and overall wellbeing.
- To lead on developing a pilot programme of activity in Summer/ Autumn 2023, to test and evaluate music activities that could move to The Base once launched in 2024.
- Collaborate with external partners, service providers and organisations, to develop programmes within The Base that engage young people from underrepresented backgrounds.
- To ensure that the programme is of high quality and meets the needs of the young people, including young people with additional needs and disabilities and young people who typically don’t engage in arts.
- Recruit and manage facilitators, and when appropriate, bring in industry professionals and coordinate high level master classes and, through regular monitoring, ensure our pool of freelance tutors and youth support staff deliver work with young people to the highest possible standard and appropriate levels of staffing are maintained at all times.
- To coordinate and expand the Urban Vocal Group and its offer, contracting and communicating with the workshop leaders, liaising with venues and ensuring robust safeguarding practices are followed constantly.
- To input relevant data into our CRM system and generate monthly reporting on the activity.
- Work alongside the Head of Learning and Participation and Youth Advisory Group coordinator to expand our Youth Consultation group.
- To report and consult with Head of Learning and Participation regularly and consult with other colleagues who can support and add value to activities.
Special Requirements
- A willingness to work unsocial hours during evenings and weekends is required. Minimum 2 days a week will need to work up to 8pm and 2 weekends a month.
- The ability and willingness to travel to meetings and events both in the region and beyond.

Essential
Experience of working with young people aged 11 to 25 in a range of settings.
Experience of recruiting and managing creative facilitators, to shape creative programmes.
Experience of delivering and commissioning arts activities to young people in line with relevant guidance and good practice.
Experience in implementing robust safeguarding practices.
Experience of managing a staff team including volunteers.
Experience of monitoring and evaluation processes.
Experience working in partnership with external agencies.
Experience managing externally funded projects.
Desirable
Experience of youth work
Experience of developing music specific activities.
Attribute - Knowledge
Essential
A practical understanding of engaging with vulnerable, disengaged and hard to reach young people by utilising arts activities.
Knowledge of Safeguarding best practices.
Sound knowledge of arts qualifications and the quality standards expected for the successful delivery of accredited and non-accredited arts activities.

Essential
Educated to degree level and/or demonstrable experience of work in the Creative Cultural Industries
Desirable
One or more specialist arts qualification such as Dance, Music, Photography, Performing or Creative Arts etc.
