Stz’uminus First Nation (SFN) is a progressive community with a workforce of approximately 60 people located in Ladysmith, British Columbia. Our Nation has 1,300 members, with about half living on our reserves. We are a rapidly growing Nation, offering our members a range of opportunities, programs, and services.
ABOUT THE POSITION
As an ideal candidate and reporting to the Director of Administration, you will bring proven abilities in transparent communication, developing positive relationships, and achieving organizational results within a dynamic service organization. Equally important will be your ability to work collaboratively with all team members.

HOURS OF WORK & CLASSIFICATION
This is a permanent position.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations.
- Persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders.
- Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
- Establishing and maintaining personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers.
- Actively supporting all departments (housing, recreation, education, fisheries, etc.).
- Maintaining a calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
- Conducting prospect research.
- Prioritizing projects to keep multiple projects moving promptly, meeting deadlines, and managing supplemental material required for proposals.
- Providing writing support for major donor and individual contribution letters and acknowledgments.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree or marketing/PR experience.
- Knowledge of and experience with Governance Issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience in grant/proposal writing.
- 3 – 5 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
- High level of computer literacy.
- Communicate in a compelling and concise form.
- Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants.
- Proposal writing courses or workshops are an asset.
