Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary: *Oversees, monitors and maintains the KHP's social media accounts. The continuous monitoring of information being posted and/or shared on these accounts is required. The employee is responsible for the posting and sharing of information relating to Agency operations, training and events, and public safety announcements. Notifies immediate supervisor when information is posted and/or shared on Agency social media accounts that have the potential of bringing a negative light to our agency. Employee utiliizes social media and the internet to research, unveil, find and send information about current events or recent studies of interest to senior staff and agency employees. Maintains proficiency in the use of social media and other media platforms. Travel and overnight stays will be required as needed for events, conferences and responding to disaster situations.
  • Website - Combine efforts with the Media Department to analyze the KHP's website design, appearance, content, and maintenance. Basic knowledge of HTML coding language is needed. Assists the Media Department with researching current web design trends to ensure the agency's website remains current.
  • Researches, writes and edits special projects for agency senior staff and members of other state agencies, when assigned. Projects such as grant proposals, correspondence and research projects on controversial topics are presented to members of the Patrol, local, state and federal governmental bodies and the general public to inform and/or persuade various audiences. This involves internet and library research, interviews and statistical analysis writing. Researches, writes and edits press/news releases, website features, agency pamphlets, brochures, columns and articles, as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or senior staff member, while meeting publication deadlines in order to educate and/or persuade various audiences.
  • Selects, researches and writes articles for the agency monthly bulletin on traffic safety, germane current events and law enforcement topics, when assigned. Decodes complex or technical information for readers on laws and judicial decisions, policies and safety information. Ghostwrites columns as needed. Assists KHP Media Department with reviewing articles that are submitted for the monthly bulletin and assists direct supervisor with making the decision on what is accepted or rejected for publication, when assigned.
  • Graphic Design - Collaborates with the Media Department in conceptualizing and designing the layouts of agency graphics, photographs, brochures, handouts, reference materials, maps, and displays. Assists the Media Department with creating custom artwork and logos for printed materials. Assists the Media Department with researching, planning, and coordinating new graphic design ideas and materials. Participates in idea creation to develop concepts, intended audiences, content, and format for projects. Uses various software programs to assist with editing and revising projects.
  • Assists the Senior Administrative Assistant with providing coverage to the General Headquarter's (GHQ) front desk, during normal operational hours. Answers, redirects and/or forwards phone calls, relays messages, provides general information to the public, and monitors visitors and bystanders who enter the GHQ building. Assists and allows authorized persons and employees to enter controlled access areas of the building. Immediately reports suspicious activities and/or behavior to immediate supervisor or other uniformed staff member of the Patrol. Accepts mail and packages from reliable and known delivery/mail services and notifies the appropriate person of the delivery when necessary.
  • Plans, organizes and schedules events for Public and Governmental Affairs when assigned. This involves working with agency leaders and personnel, state officials, and outside organizations on matters and events relating to the Patrol.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver’s License.

Necessary Special Requirements: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively verbally in person and on the telephone and in writing with fellow employees and the general public. Demonstrated excellent written communication using correct grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Ability to listen, comprehend and respond to fellow employees and the general public via telephone or in person. Ability to multi-task. Must possess computer skills with knowledge of publishing programs and Windows and Excel programs. Knowledgeable of agency business, policies, procedures and the ability to think conceptually. Demonstrated excellent written & oral professional communication using correct grammar, sentence structure and spelling. Proficient in social and other media, Word, Excel Adobe and Power DMS.
One year of experience in composing complex technical reports, articles or manuscripts.

Preferred Qualifications: Formal training and/or experience with computer programs and applications associated with social media and/or publishing.
Proficiency with Windows based systems, SMaRT, PowerDMS, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word programs. Proficiency with publications programs. Proficient in social media applications and platforms.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must submit to and pass a thorough background check including fingerprints.
Ability to sit, walk, stand, stretch, twist, reach out with body, arms and legs; listen, comprehend, respond, speak clearly and concisely in person and on the telephone; repeatedly bend, stoop, lift lightweight materials up to 40 lbs, sit for long periods of time, move in confined areas, and perform repetitive motions with one or more extremity.
Work requires light physical exertion. Physical activities such as handling lightweight or easily moved items such as file folders, boxed office supplies can be expected. Exposure to a noisy atmosphere can also be expected due to office equipment / machines. Stress related to voluminous nature of the work and meeting extremely short deadlines. Discomfort and eye strain from extensive computer use.
