SDA have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Weapons Safety Engineering professional to join our Trident Systems Project Team (TSPT) at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. By joining TSPT, you will integrate with a team of highly skilled professionals and get up-close and personal with complex weapons and submarine systems. You will oversee engineering challenges unique to this industry, whilst providing support to the Royal Navy and a significant contribution to project/programme success.
As a specialist member of TSPT, you will be an authority on Weapons Safety Systems and coordination of this complex capability. You will represent SDA on the waterfront, providing assurance and specialised technical expertise to strengthen activities between Vanguard and Dreadnaught class submarine build through to delivery.
In this unique and exciting role, you will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience in the Trident Strategic Weapon System, its operations, maintenance, safety interfaces and management. You will also have access to longer-term investment in strategic weapon competence, inculcation to the strategic weapons programme as part of a technical development provision and associated career opportunities.

About the role
You will operate at Senior/Engineering Manager level to represent TSPT as the Safety Engineering interface between HMNB Clyde and TSPT. You will manage the integration of modernised systems, contributing to the development, delivery and through life monitoring of Safety Protection Interfaces with HMNB Clyde / Royal Navy Armament Depot Coulport Facility Safety Case. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to:
- Attendance at the various safety/engineering meetings within Clyde
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of project safety and environmental assurance plans, monitors compliance, and ensures that safety assurance evidence is gathered and assessed for compliance with the safety case
- Provide informed safety advice to decision makers through Project Safety Panels
- Report any potential for significant impact on Health & Safety, Environmental Protection or Nuclear Weapon Safety, standards, and performance
- Minimise and manage the risk to TSPT equipment availability, whilst ensuring that the solution remains safe and fit for purpose through life
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent
body
- Relevant Level 4 (HNC or higher) qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful
engineering outcomes
- Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with
knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches
