Wastewater Production Operator

Location: Teesside Area

Salary: £27,214 - £31,517 (depending on experience)

Contract Type: Permanent

About the role

At Northumbrian Water we live water. Providing a wastewater treatment service that protects and enhances the environment, whilst also improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of the people and wildlife is invaluable. We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us and develop as a Wastewater Treatment Operative and play a key role in delivering this essential service.

Working as part of a team you will be responsible for operating and controlling a number of wastewater treatment works as well as pumping stations within the wider sewerage network. Within this role you will conduct tasks in all conditions to ensure these assets operate correctly and will undertake fault-finding investigations when issues are found. Full training will be provided to undertake the various technical aspects of this role.

Please note

This role has been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test. Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.

About you

Our Wastewater Treatment Operatives carry out regular analysis of water quality so we are looking for people who are confident at interpreting data. No two days are the same - you will be someone who is happy working in a team or alone with minimal supervision and flexible enough to meet a varied workload.

We want to speak to people who can bring a good combination of technical and personal skills and would be happy to undertake training for the various technical aspects of the role. Therefore, you’ll be computer literate and demonstrate the ability to interpret various pieces of information to identify process issues and optimise assets’ performance.

You’ll be a good communicator with written and verbal skills in order to be able to produce clear, effective and reliable information. You’ll also be able to demonstrate that you have strong problem solving skills in order to ensure that outstanding service is delivered on behalf of our customers to protect and enhance the environment.

If you are practical and pragmatic and enjoy problem solving and being hands on, this could be a great job for you.

Please note you will need a full driving licence. In addition you’ll also need a strong focus on health and safety. The role will involve both lone working and working as part of a team with minimal supervision in a wastewater environment. As such you will be responsible for protecting your safety and that of your colleagues, customers & suppliers at all times.
