We are looking for positive, compassionate, and caring Waking Night Support Workers to join our team in Banstead were we support adults with learning disabilities.
Waking night hours is between 19:30-07:00
You must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to Mencap and the work that we do, alongside the wonderful people we support. We are looking for people with a ‘can-do’ attitude who are strongly motivated, outgoing, caring and have a calm demeanour when needed.
You will need to be willing to take on personal care duties for some of the people we support, also support with medication, updating support plans, daily living tasks, meal preparation and finances.
The people you will be supporting love a variety of activities including swimming, shopping, cooking, socialising, going on days out, cinema, day centres, eating out and being part of their community which can at times be a hectic schedule. Being social and having conversations about things that are of interest and daily life is something they truly value. There is a definite sense of fun and belonging in the service and a sense of humour helps in building rapport and good relationships with the people you will be supporting.
In the home, the emphasis is on active support, so working with and not for the people we support, maintaining and developing skills to keep their home environment safe, clean and well maintained. We support people with a variety of emotional and social needs including mobility, where support with a wheelchair is required only when out, personal care and eating and drinking.
What does a Support Worker do?
As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will enormously contribute to the people we support, living a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life.
- Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom.
- Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
- Good communication skills/relationship building – supporting the person to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
- Community & Social Inclusion- Supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
- Waking night staff will be expected to meet the needs of the PWS in the night as well as monitoring the PWS.
- To work with the sleep-in staff.
