PeerJ is an academic publisher with the aim to make access to peer-reviewed scientific research literature openly available to all. We publish journals in the areas of biology, medicine, environment, chemistry, and computer science.
We are seeking a talented Vue.js Frontend Developer to join our team. As a Vue.js Frontend Developer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing user interface components using Vue.js and Vuetify frameworks. You will work closely with the product and design team to translate specs into functional web applications.
Pay in the range of £45,000 - £65,000 depending on experience, including academic publishing industry experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop new user-facing and internal staff features using Vue.js framework
- Moving PeerJ closer to being a full PWA as we work to convert older JavaScript/HTML to using Vue
- Build reusable code and libraries for future use
- Collaborate with product and design teams to define and implement new features
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
- Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability
- Participate in code reviews, testing and debugging of the codebase
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in web development and JavaScript frameworks
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Proven experience as a Vue.js Frontend Developer or similar role
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Vue.js framework
- CSS pre-processors (e.g. SASS), JavaScript, build tools like Browserify, and WebPack
- Familiarity with Git version control system and NPM package manager
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs (GraphQL) and how to integrate with them
- Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest or Cypress is a plus
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- A portfolio of previous work demonstrating experience with Vue.js development
- A genuine desire to work on improving affordable Open Access
