The Role

We are now looking for two enthusiastic Video Journalists to join our Audio Visual team and be instrumental in delivering the high quality content our subscribers deserve

If you are a video specialist with a desire to tell stories and engage with people through film then we want to hear from you. We need team players, with an individual flare. As happy behind the camera, as you are in front. Technology savvy with an understanding of what it takes to be a successful mobile journalist. You have the ability to adapt to any situation and deliver outstanding results. Experienced and competent in sound and lighting, you can work fast and manage projects from shooting, through the edit, and delivering to all our platforms.

As a video journalist for The Scotsman you will work on a multitude of projects. From working on your own ideas to teaming up with our experienced specialists to produce informative and entertaining mini documentaries.

Here at The Scotsman we cover news across the breadth of society. From current affairs and sport, arts and entertainment, to education, healthcare and rural affairs. Skills

  • Highly proficient in the use of mobile phones for filmmaking
  • Experienced at recording quality sound from a variety of sources
  • A good understanding of lighting techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Good time management and track record of delivering to deadlines
  • Proficient in the use of NLE software
  • Proficiency in the use of the Adobe CC suite of software, particularly with Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
  • Training in, and experience of using, variety of equipment and software to produce and prepare a/v content to a high standard both in studio and field environments
  • An understanding and experience of livestreaming equipment and techniques
  • The ability to work independently, under direction or as part of a team to conceive, develop, shoot, edit and publish high-quality AV content
  • A strong understanding of media practices, ethical constraints and digital trends.
  • The ability to work collegially with a range of colleagues, including sharing skills and training
  • The flexibility to work on a rota basis across evenings and weekends as required
  • Confidence in meeting and dealing with people from all backgrounds in order to film and photograph them.
  • An understanding of The IPTC Photo Metadata Standard and its uses within a news organisation.
