University of Sheffield
Full Time Sheffield, England 10.56 - 12.04 GBP Today
Job description

The University of Sheffield is special. A world class institution at the heart of our city. Driven by outstanding people working as One University. We believe our work has the power to change lives, not just for those who study, teach and do research here, but for those who benefit from the breakthroughs we make every day. We continue to be recognised for our outstanding teaching and research and are a World Top 100 University (QS World University Rankings 2022), and home to 29,000 of the brightest students and over 8,000 staff from more than 140 countries around the world. We want Sheffield to be an international centre of excellence for centuries to come. We’re proud of our past. Yet it’s the future that really excites us.

The Advanced Manufacturing Group (AMG) is a world leading group of translational research and training centres, comprised of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), The Nuclear AMRC (NAMRC), and the AMRC Training Centre. Together these form a unique and sector-leading cluster for research, innovation, and training, leveraging the University’s outstanding partnership work with globally leading advanced manufacturing companies in areas such as materials science, sustainable engineering, and nuclear technologies. Collectively, the AMG is an international leader in successful collaboration between academia and the public and private sectors.

The Vice-President (VP) and Head of the AMG is a new role that will provide strategic leadership of the AMG, helping to shape and steer the AMG’s research and innovation strategies in Sheffield and across its satellite sites. As a member of the University Executive Board, you will play a pivotal role in driving the University’s translational research, impact, knowledge exchange, and commercialisation agenda through engagement with industry partners, funders, and the University’s Faculties. You will forge close working relationships between the AMG and the University’s Faculties, leveraging the full disciplinary ability of the University and developing ambitious collaborative projects. Externally, the Vice-President will act as an ambassador for the AMG and the University, helping to sustain and grow the AMG’s profile, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience of senior leadership in a comparably large and complex organisation, and a track record of advancing impact, knowledge exchange, and research and innovation activities. You will have experience of working in academia, as well as experience of engaging with industry, for example to enhance research and education, to attract investment, and to commercialise research outputs. You will have demonstrable project management credentials, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the agility and versatility to respond to emerging and competing priorities. An understanding of the regional, national and international R&D landscape will be important. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the vision and strategic ambition to help enhance the work of the AMG to drive a greater impact on the economic and social development of the UK.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
