BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit (NHU) is the leading producer of wildlife programming, creating award-winning content with a world class reputation.
Our output ranges from ambitious landmarks for BBC One and iPlayer (Green Planet, Dynasties, and Frozen Planet II) to children’s programming (Deadly Dinosaurs and Andy’s Adventures), as well as ground-breaking adventure, formatted, presenter led, feature docs and event programming such as Endangered for Discovery Channel, Prehistoric Planet for Apple TV+ and live programming such as the BAFTA winning Springwatch for the BBC.
BBC Studios NHU has been commissioned by National Geographic and Disney + to make a hugely ambitious landmark, multi series blue-chip natural history brand HOME.
We are looking for a talented researcher to work on the VFX for this ground-breaking project.
Main ResponsibilitiesDay to day responsibilities will include:
- Geological and Geographical research that explains how environments and ecosystems evolved over time.
- Establishing relationships with experts and find the most current theories of earth sciences.
- Working with Directors and VFX producer to create exciting stories based on your research.
- Translating complex academic research into easy-to-understand briefings for the editorial team and VFX house.
- Ensuring all VFX work is factually accurate and work with VFX producer to feed back to the VFX vendor.
- Seeking out inspiration for VFX sequences, from a variety of sources – film, TV, computer games etc.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating great content, with a keen eye for detail. You could be someone with a specialist knowledge of either earth sciences, geography, ecology or similar. Equally you could have previous experience researching VFX for television or film without a science background. A general understanding of the VFX creation process would be good but is not essential.
