Job description
We are looking for an experienced animal technician to join our friendly, hardworking team to be actively involved in the daily care and maintenance of animals within our Germ Free biofacility situated in Cambridge. The job duties will involve general Isolator and Isocage husbandry, looking after welfare requirements, record keeping, checking and recording environmental parameters, health monitoring, general hygiene and cleaning. Additionally, you will have responsibility for colony management and completion of procedures, including Home Office Licensed procedures.
Ideally you will hold an Institute of Animal Technology Level 2 or equivalent qualification, or at least GCSE (A-C) in English, Maths and a Science subject (ideally Biology), or equivalent. It is also desirable that the successful candidate will be expected to hold, or be ready to apply for a Home Office personal license with Home Office modules A - B.
You should be positive, reliable and able to interact with team colleagues and research staff. Experience in a technical/laboratory setting and completing basic procedures is essential. Experience completing regulated procedures would be an advantage. Specific experience working with rodents housed in Isocages and Isolators would be beneficial however training will be provided for experienced technicians who do not have Germ Free and Isolator / Isocage experience.
